Creating an offset path with gradient fill

Hi all, I somehow managed to create this with offset path. I would like the purple part to be a rainbow, whether through gradient or some kind of pattern/stock image, and then I'd like to change the text itself to white instead of black. What's the easiest way to accomplish this?

Thank you!

as I see, you can use my idea. Ungroup the composition (or come intoIsolated Mode), select all purple items and apply the gradient you want. To apply the common gradient to all items together use the Gradient tool and draw the line through.

Select all black items and fil them white.

You can do this easy via the appareance panel, keeping your text and effects live and editable at any moment

    1. Type yor text

    2. On the apareance panel add a new fill

    3. With this new fill selected, apply offset path as an effect (fx icon at the lower part of the window)

    4. Paint this fill with the gradient as you want

    5. Select the first fill and appy the color you want to the text (withe in this case or whatever)

    6. Done

now you can play with the colors as you want see the picture attached

Or did you apply the Offset as an Effect?

Pleas post a screenshots with the object selected and the expanded Layer in the Layers Panel and the Appearance Panel visible.

You have already made the main part of the work

Offset path is the totally new object, independent of the original path.

At the moment of creating the offset they create a group, so you can ungroup it or use Isolation mode (double-click on the object).

You can select the text path and the offset separate and change their attributes like you wish.
