EDIT to above (I can't find a way to directly edit my post: After trying this 'fix' a few times, it appears that it doesn't reliably fix the issue. You can give it a shot, but I haven't had luck on further attempts. Sorry to get hopes up! Adobe, it's been over two years! We need Photoshop & Illustrator to remain functional while both are open! Throwing in my voice to amplify the priority to *please* address this issue!

You may get more responses from the community if you use proper punctuation and grammar. Just a thought. I had a really hard time reading your question.

Hi @unfrustrated,

Thanks for reaching out. I am using MX Master 3 and couldn't replicate the same behavior on my end. Would you mind confirming which other apps are running in the background and checking if closing any one of them (one by one) helps or not? Also, would you mind confirming if you are using any font management or plugin/extensions and the exact version of macOS & Illustrator?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Hello, still not a fix to that issue? I've having the same problem running on the macbook air m2 in june 2023. As a graphic designer it's very anoying and impractical not work with photoshop and illustrator at the same time...

This is happening all the time.

MacBook Pro 16" (2019), MacOS 10.15.7, Illustrator 26.4

Feels like working with a defective tool. I'm giving up on this.

EDIT: Just want to mention, that at some point in time, the issue was gone. However, I don't know, what exactly solved the problem.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this experience. I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • Does this issue happen while working on a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Are there any apps running in the background? If yes, close them one by one and see if that helps resolve the issue.
  • Are you using any external monitors?
  • Are you using a Macbook touchpad or any third-party mouse?
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Also, you may try opening the app in Safe Mode and see how it performs there.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Thank you for sharing the details. This is a known issue and has been reported by few other users as well. Our product team is working hard to test & finalize the changes as soon as we can. Please stay tuned for updates, and thanks in advance for your patience. As of now, the only solution is to close Photoshop while using Illustrator or vice-versa. Also, you may try using a different Desktop and see if that helps resolve the issue.
