Question

Delay when selecting things using an Apple Trackpad

I've just started working on a new office computer (Mac Studio base option) with a Apple Trackpad 2 and Ventura. It has the latest versions of all the Adobe apps and I've noticed an issue in Illustrator 2023. When I tap on something to select it theres a noticable delay before the object handles appear. You can see in the attached video the delay I'm talking about from when you see the screen recorder show the trackpad tap and when illustrator selects the object.

Previous to this computer I was using a wireless mouse on Illustrator 2022 running Monterey and it was fine.

Does anyone know if this is a trackpad issue, Illustrator 2023 issue or Ventura issue?

Thanks.

What happens if you connect a USB mouse how is the speed? Can we see your Trackpad settings in system preferences?

Hi there,

If I swap to a logitech MX Master it works fine. And it's also fine at the moment since I had the mac off all weekend. It's just an occasional issue. I've check everything I can find but have yet to find a direct culpret.

To be fair, it's not happened in over a week now, maybe an update has fixed things? Attached are the track pad settings, not sure how that will help though.

Hello @JBatDEVLINK,

Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind trying to reboot your computer in Safe Mode (https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/start-up-your-mac-in-safe-mode-mh21245/mac) and relaunch Illustrator to check if it helps?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

So sorry for the delay getting back to you. I did try restarting the mac in safe mode and it looked to fix the error. Then I booted at normal again and the error stayed fixed?? It's happened a couple of times since, and a quick restart doens't always fix it, however, a longer full shutdown and restart (over the weeked for example) does fix it.
