embedded color profile in png

I get that jpg is the web format of choice but it is not always suitable and at times one needs the transparency option of PNG files. Plus sometimes I find I am passing along a PNG file for someone else to use in their artwork.

For quite a while now it seems Adobe has decided to not support embedded color profiles in PNG files. I'd like to know why but more important, I can't be the only one having this issue so how are folks working around it and what's up that Adobe can't rectify the issue?

Correct answer mjbelt

I find best practice to apply “Color Management” in Photoshop.

Assemble in Illustrator or InDesign.

Workaround:)

Note this question is with reference to illustrator (note indesign has same issue).

Try these steps:

1. Edit>Assign profile...

2. File Save As./Export

Seeing as I submitted question under Illustrator I assumed it would be obvious I am asking question in relation to Illustrator and not Photoshop. I appreciate your response but sadly Illustrator doesn't have this option.
