Images will always be embedded.

You need to select appropriate options for image quality, compression and color handling.

That only thing that *can* happen: if you save the file with "preserve Illustrator editing options" and then that company open the PDF in Illustrator, then the images are probably not embedded in the Illustrator part of the file. They are still in the PDF though. If they are actually doing that, then it would be better to send them a packaged AI file. I mean, you never know how much the person at the other end knows about workflows ...

thank you 🙂

@btride

This is from Adobe Help. The presets for saving PDFs have the extension of .joboptions.

Adobe PDF presets

"A PDF preset is a group of settings that affect the process of creating a PDF. These settings are designed to balance file size with quality, depending on how the PDF is used. Most predefined presets are shared across Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat. You can also create and share custom presets for your unique output requirements. A saved PDF preset file has the suffix .joboptions."

@btride

I've moved your post from Creative Cloud Desktop to the Adobe Illustrator forum.

What joboptions are you using when you create the PDF from Illustrator?
