i did a illustration using illustrator. saved it as eps with transparent background. (ive checked transparent grid and it was all correct.) then when i place my eps file in indesign, a white background shows up. quite annoying as i need it done urgently for my coursework. ive tried my other eps file that ive done a few months ago and it works but the recent eps file just wont work. i tried opening a new document then tried saving it again but nothing is working.

Why are you saving as EPS if you are placing in InDesign? Use native Illustrator with PDF Compatibility enabled. There is no advantage to EPS. Also, have you made sure there is no fill on the graphic frame containing the EPS?

I'm using eps because it's a logo so I wanted to vectorise it so it won't lose details when used/ zoomed in etc. and I've made sure there's no fill in the frame in InDesign.

Illustrator files are vectors. A normal aillistrator file contains a vector PDF copy of the Illustrator file and will be as much a vector as an EPS. It has the added bonus of supporting layers and full transparency.

Save as Illustrator file. Make sure PDF Conpatibility is on (it is by default).

While it is correct to save AI/PDF, your screenshot looks like there is an additional issue.
When placing the file in InDesign you need to "Show Import options" and then also set the background to transparent on Import. You only need to do that once. InDesign will keep that option.
