I exported an EPS to DXF. I tried to open the DXF in Illustrator and nothing is there.
Any suggestions?

You created the DXF in which app?
Was there even vector artwork in that EPS?

I saved a vector in Adobe Illustrator as.ai, then saved as a eps file, from the eps I exported as a dxf. I tried to open the dxf file in illustrator and nothing was there.

Exactly what is in the file?

round fall sign designs. I have done this for years and never had a problem until this file. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

What kind of artwork? Effects, transparency? Just paths?

oh sorry, lol. compound paths. No effects, no transparency

With compound paths nothing should happen when saving as an EPS, but in order to be sure, open the original AI and then export from there.
Do the compound paths have visible lines and strokes? Not white or "None"?

all visible lines and strokes. I opened original AI and exported from there. Same thing - nothing is there when I open DXF in Illustrator.

Can you show a screenshot that includes the Layers panel?
Can you try and copy parts of it to a new file and then export from there? Maybe the file is corrupt?

so, I had this happen again with another file. I copy and pasted the design into a new file, then exported as dxf. That worked. How does a file become corrupt?

That is not very clear unfortunately.
But I'm glad you could at least solve it.
Maybe @Anshul_Saini can help answer this question?
