Gradient color intense along center line, fading away on both sides

Hi Experts!

My object is "S" shaped that is thinker in the center and comes to a close at the top and bottom

Imagine a curved line running down the center of the "S" from the top tip to the bottom tip.

I'm trying to figure out a way to have a color fill of the object that is a gradient that is most intense along that center line but that fades away equally on both sides of the line.

Can anyone provide me with suggestions on how to do that?

Thanks!

jd,

You can use multiple blends to create transitions with different intensity concentrations along the centre.

The images below were:

1) Made from 2 bounding paths, then

2) A soft transition based on a centre path made with a 1 step blend followed by a 256 step blend of those paths all being 255 Red and the outer paths having an Opacity of 0%, then

3) More intense transitions based on a centre path made with a 1 step blend followed by a 3 step blend, only keeping the steps closest to the centre, followed by a 256 step blend of those paths all being 255 Red and the outer paths having an Opacity of 0% and the paths closest to the centre having an Opacity of 50% (more intense) and 30% respectively (most intense).

We can provide better suggestions if you provide a screenshot of what you are looking to achieve. My best guess is these are the important settings you need to look at in doing a gradient along a stroke.

Here is the shape I have.

Probably using a blend:

But possibly also with freeform gradients

Gradient across the stroke is not an option?

A width profile could take care of the shape.
