Here, I created 7 separate shapes, not overlapping.

Next, I created 7 linear gradients and applied to the 7 individual shapes.

For the shape, I used the Ellipse Tool and the Pencil tool, Strokes.

It was a quickie slice and dice and join. You can do better.

Gave it a large stroke weight.

Finally, outline stroke. Now working with Fills.

Create the gradient as a straight line, convert it to an art brush, apply it as a stroke to whatever shape such as the polygon with the loops.

But when I cut the loops to create the gaps the graident then breaks up and isn't continuous?
