I'm trying to change the color combination of editable text that I found on Adobe stock.  I'm not sure how to change the colors.  When I try to change the color it only changes the top layer.  Here is an example of one of the editable text options that I want to use

Editable text style effect - Summer theme style.

Make sure to ungroup first in case you need to do that, but yes, Zoon is correct, it's  in the appearance panel available from the window tab options.

Before you have fully understood the file, better not ungroup anything, because the group itself might have important appearances applied. You can always go into isolation mode instead.
