How do you make a single object from multiple objects while retaining individual fills?

Hi, Im trying to use the Inflate (3D and Materials) effect with this rainbow, however I need it to inflate as 1 object instead of 7 little noodle-looking ones. Anybody know how I can do this?

It seems I need to make the rainbow seen as 1 object by Illustrator, however I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried a clipping mask and that didn't work. Any know-how would be super appreciated.

Thank you,

It would mean to make one thick shape, inflate it and then apply the colors as label. But since 3D&materials can't do labels very well, I doubt that it would work. I do not want to build this myself, so if you could perhaps share an AI file?
