How to attach line segment across an object, to create live paint object

I am trying to attach a curved line between 2 points of an object to create another object that can be filled with live paint (the white space shaped like a "s"). I posted some pictures below to show what I'm trying to do, and as well the layers of the vector object I placed.

This is showing the place i would like the line segment to be attached to, joining these to points to create the white space as another object, creating a full "S" object that can be coloured with live paint. In this picture you can see that it is not attached as it a separate line segment.

This picture is showing the line segment away from the object, and the layers. Zoom in to see layers closer. Thanks in advanced for any help.

the object you have selected in the first image appears to be a live paint group. if you select that and the rest of the object (that isn't currently a live paint group) at the same time, you should be able to click on 'merge live paint' and turn them into a single group.

the lines don't necessarily need to join as long as they abut or intersect (use smart guides). select both objects and click 'merge live paint' on the control bar.
