What is the best way to get the faded look that is in the word Cardinal w/out having to create every single line?

Since your other threads are about illustrator, I'm moving this to the Illustrator forum.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out. As @John T Smith said, this can be in multiple Adobe apps. In Illustrator, you can do this by creating just two lines > Object > Blend > Make on the Text. Convert the lines and text to Outlines and use the pathfinder tool to subtract the lines, and you will get your desired result. You may check out this Youtube tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sx8hQboitng) for reference.

Let us know if you need any further assistance. We'd be happy to help.

Thank you, @Peru Bob, for moving the thread to this forum.

Thanks & Regards.

Anshul Saini

There are multiple ways to accomplish that effect in Illustrator. A less destructive alternative would involve a clipping path to contain the blended lines. The text object could be used as a clipping path.

This is the result of a blend between a 4 pt. white line at the top and a 1 pt. white line on the bottom. I set the blend options to be a specified number of steps, in this case 6 steps. I typed “CARDINALS” and positioned the text above the blend. I then selected the type and the boend and went to Object > Clipping Path > Make. ThHis turned the type into a mask so only the lines inside the text appeared. I then set the fill and stroke colour for the type.

The text is live, so I can edit the text or change the font and other type attributes. The blend is also live, so I can change the stroke colours, stroke weights, or number of steps in the blend.
