How to refresh an Ai file after a crash

New Here ,
Apr 03, 2023 Apr 03, 2023

After a crash, i reopened the app and the following allert appeared:

This file can only be partially read by illustrator.
As much of the file's content as possible has been recovered, but some may be missing. To view the recovered file, open it.

I decided to open the file and all the work was saved but all the drawings and texts and pics are converted together in images following the pages where they were settled. I need to separate and convert them and i do not know how. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Could be a clipping mask.

You can open the layers panel and then drill into the layers by clicking on the little arrows to the left.

Clipping masks can be expanded with Object > Clipping mask > Release.

Objects probablöy might not be completely editable.

Hello @Davide292163316vyd,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. I hope the suggestions shared by Monika helped resolve the problem. If not, kindly share the file here (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967...) so we can check it on our end. Although we cannot guarantee a successful recovery, we will try our best to do so.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hi, thanks Monika and Anubhav for your assistance, however the issue is not related to the clipping mask. In fact i aknowledged my drawings are reported as linked works from the original file (before its crash). So i thought it could be solved by just clicking on the "modify original file" button when selecting the pic, but the previous error text appeared again and another recovered file was created with the same problems.

Therefore the real question is: how could i return to the original file if all the recovered ones will not allow me to it?

Thanks again for your help, apologizes in advance for grammar mistakes, not my first language. Have a nice Easter.

If there's a corruption in the doc then you may not be able to get around that.

Do you have an actual file, is there one sitting in the recovery folder?

[I think here: C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 22 Settings\en_US\x64\DataRecovery (for PC), you'll have to google mac, or even PC if this is wrong!]

If so, you could run it through Distiller or try opening with Acrobat, save as .pdf or .eps, see which works best... You may not get ALL your doc recovered whatever method you use.

Save, and save often...
