It's a little difficult to explain this properly, but whenever I try to move the Illustrator program window to another part of my screen, it instantly moves behind every other program window I have open. Even if I just move it a teeny tiny bit...boom... now it's behind all the programs I have open. It is very annoying and I can't find a solution anywhere. I dropped in "before and after" screenshots if they help at all. You can see the "Pathfinder" toolbar is still in front of the Chrome window so it's definitely a weird glitch. The issue doesn't happen with any other Adobe program either. I have updated to the latest vesion of AI a few times and still no luck. I have a 2021 Macbook Pro. Anyone have a solution? Thank you.
I have had the same issue for weeks. In an attempt to solve it, I asked the internets and it led me here. Very frustrating stuff, as people have stated. I too tried some of the solutions here and nothing stuck. BUT... and I am crossing my fingers here, I switched workspaces to "layout" and so far everything is back in order. Been a couple hours now. Perhaps try this one... if it reverts back to our hated glitch I will report back.
Hello @jeremyc83162335,
We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would it be possible for you to have a debug session with us? If yes, please send me your Adobe ID, Country & Timezone, phone number with country code, and preferred dates and times between Mon- and Fri over a private message.

Thank you for finally understanding what is happening... I must admit that I am extremely disappointed that Adobe has not resolved this issue, which is still present in December 2023... Unbelievable.
It's like the missing Pantone swatches, things are not getting better at Adobe!!!

You will have to complain to Pantone about that.
But you can still get them. Install the earliest Illustrator version from the creative Cloud app and grab the libraries from it.

Thank you for your comment and solution. Personally, when you pay a package for an application and everything is included beforehand, color management is basic in graphic software. It's up to Adobe to resolve the situation. It's like a rental car that you've always rented with a GPS and you decide to remove it. That's my opinion, thank you.

The point is:
color management ≠ Pantone - There is color management built into Illustrator.
You can stomp with your feet however you want, but it's Pantone who voted out of the contract. The negotiations went for a year. Pantone voted out and wants you to buy Pantone Connect. So your choice now. You can download that old version whiule it's still possible or when it's mno longer possible you have to subscribe to Pantone Connect.
Do you have the printed Pantone books? Because if you do not have them, the libraries are basically worthless. And if you do have the printed books, you do not need the libraries. Just set up a spot color, name it appropriately and talk to your printer.

The negotiations between Adobe and Pantone do not concern me. "I am dissatisfied and I have the right to my opinion. Thank you."

You totally do. Do you also have some facts that your claim about Pantone is based on?
BTW: this is a community forum. 95% of people are not staff.

Just as a heads up Monika, if you have been upgrading with Aobe programs for a bit you can go into Application Support in your libraries in you user system and grab Pantone Library there. Even faster Search Pantone and the library will pop up... BUT they should be in the folders of the older files still in your system from upgrades. Trying to help the issue instead of complicate it for us busy peeps that need to keep working.
On a personal opinion level... sounds like Pantone is sharing some of the Quark feels from the 90's and we know how that worked out for them!

Any updates i've made has not solved this issue, and it's been driving me crazy!! what has worked for me though, has been toggling between "Essentials classic" and Essentials - i did it a couple of times and it seems to have solved the glitch - wether it stays this way is anouther matter, but its a quick fix until a patch is resolved.

Same thing is happening to me. I'm using 27.8.1. I need to have two browser windows open and three finder windows in addition to my Illustrator window for this current project. Makes workflow wonky. PLEASE FIX.

Thanks for the info and update. Seems to be working for me too, albeit only tested for an hour or so. Just need to get used to a new workspace, but I'd rather that than the window dropping away. Cheers!

THANK YOU THANY YOU THANK - YOU!
this has been bugging the h$ll out of me. Worked like a charm. I use a custom workspace, but im going to just rebuild my workspace based off of "Layout" -

This also worked for me but now when I have both photoshop and illustrator open, my photoshop window is now popping to the back of my other windows whenever I move it. So frustrating!

I would argue this is NOT a "fix".
1) Changing the workspace to "Layout" eventually produced the same issue, at least for me.
2) Why would I want to "use" the "Layout" workspace when I've painstakenly built my personal workspaces for specific tasks?
Just saying, this is not a fix. Adobe needs to correct this.

Linda... and you would be right to say its NOT a fix. I see I said THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, back in December of last year - but as you have correctly pointed out. Even using a different workspace (which we shouldnt have to do) will only work for a short period. Im back to the same ridiculous antics.

I'm not here to absolve adobe by any means, just posting some images of what works for me and what does not. It's the tabs view no doubt, and at least for me, with the tab being open then I go to other windows is when I have the issue. If I close the tab the issue goes aways. I'm on a 27 inch Imac running Ventura 13.6.5
