It's a little difficult to explain this properly, but whenever I try to move the Illustrator program window to another part of my screen, it instantly moves behind every other program window I have open. Even if I just move it a teeny tiny bit...boom... now it's behind all the programs I have open. It is very annoying and I can't find a solution anywhere. I dropped in "before and after" screenshots if they help at all. You can see the "Pathfinder" toolbar is still in front of the Chrome window so it's definitely a weird glitch. The issue doesn't happen with any other Adobe program either. I have updated to the latest vesion of AI a few times and still no luck. I have a 2021 Macbook Pro. Anyone have a solution? Thank you.
I have had the same issue for weeks. In an attempt to solve it, I asked the internets and it led me here. Very frustrating stuff, as people have stated. I too tried some of the solutions here and nothing stuck. BUT... and I am crossing my fingers here, I switched workspaces to "layout" and so far everything is back in order. Been a couple hours now. Perhaps try this one... if it reverts back to our hated glitch I will report back.
Hello @jeremyc83162335,
We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would it be possible for you to have a debug session with us? If yes, please send me your Adobe ID, Country & Timezone, phone number with country code, and preferred dates and times between Mon- and Fri over a private message.

Actually, I have sent in two scathing posts on this issue and I am awaiting Adobe to step up as I am just as fed up with this issue as anyone. I would only like to hear from Adobe with a permanant fix to this problem. So, whilst waiting for that, my inbox keeps being populated with "fixes" but I'd like to know that others are giving it to Adobe as well. As a graphic design professional and one who has used these Adobe products since the late 1980s, it's irksome to see the English language abused while not coming across very credible. Perhaps it matters to the Adobeans too. BTW: it has been rampant in other posts and not just with this recent writer.

OK, so to continue with the stream of replies and to acknowledge my unfortunate speedy reply with no spell check and trying to multi-task between helpful hints to those fed up with the issue with adobe and money producing work... I apologize but appreciate those standing up for me as the copywriter pulls my stuff apart... He must not be too enthused with a possible work-around. But I did not go back and dbl check my message so my bad... You would think after 35yrs in the industry I would have that down, but my goal was to help and not be edited by someone I didn’t pay to do it. I also seem to not save my work on the reg. So there, have another peeve.

I totally agree no new downloads even fix it. I am sure they are aware of the issue but are not doing anything about it. Next they will balme the computer system I have ping ponging between the two to fix this issue. I think one isn't talking properly with the other personally. Ai is getting more advanced and creating the programs and the computer systems and no one in tech support knows how to fix it because Ai created it :))

By any chance are you using a Logitech mouse?

I know this questions wasnts for me - but I AM using a Logitech bluetooth mouse. When I turn the mouse off and use the trackpad on my mac (which I hate using) as a test. The problem went away. Is this really an issue with Logitech??

I don't have a Logitech and I have the problem. It's an adobe - apple issue on certain computers it seems.

It’s a coincidence, I have mac mouse or Apple Magic Mouse and it does the same thing… funny thing is InDesign does not do it. And just to put it out there it still does it with my Wacom Tablet… It is Adobe.

I don't know if it's a Logitech issue, I have a coworker who's having the issue, and we've swapped new computers in for her, and tried clean installs with no transferring of preferences or data to a brand new laptop. The only thing that we've realized that was a constant is the Logitech mouse. We were hoping that the mouse is the issue and will try a clean install without plugging in the mouse and see how it goes.

I too have been suffering with this for months now, both on a Macbook Pro and a Mac Studio with everything freshly installed. Mostly Illustrator but I've also had this happen in Photoshop and InDesign. Non Adobe software works as it should, no problems. As a designer who uses this software throughout the day it is highly frustrating as it breaks the workflow and it should really have been fixed after this amount of time – especially under a subscription model. I'm starting to think about switching to Affinity.

An update from me after trying some of the suggestions earlier in this thread. It's definitely caused by having some of the fly-out panels open when switching between application windows. I Control-clicked one of the tool icons and selected 'Auto-Collapse Iconic Panels' and the issue goes away. So a good work-around until you want to drag items onto the Asset Export panel, for example, which is impossible. But at least I now know what is causing the issue, thanks. Now hopefully, Adobe will look at this and fix it!

I had posted this a little bit before but just to bring it into the poss work arounds.
I found a temporary fix by turning on a feature called Stage Manager, Under Desktop & Dock settings that docks all windows to a strip on the right side of the screen reducing the clutter and windows that can pop up Infront of your AI or PS windows. I also figured out if you hold shift you can have the two windows open at the same time to transfer art like from AI to PS or InD. Still a pian in the butt to have to do it this way especially if you have a big Monitor and you like being able to click back and forth. I hope that helps a little.

Hi,
This is still an issue for me too! It happens with Illustrator and Photoshop as far as I know. I've even granted an Adobe employee access to my screen so they can go in and reorganize and delete files related to the CC apps in my hard drive. This worked temporarily, but is now an issue again. It affects my 2021 Macbook Pro and 2020 iMac.

Yea it's still an issue here too... and they went and upped the fees again even though the product is not working right.... At least they seem to be trying and it's not like Quark in the heyday just told everyone to use something else... well and they did and now mook at them.

This is insane that there isn't a fix.

I have noticed, as someone else had suggested, that if I close all the palettes the Illustrator window does not go behind the other open programs or folders. It's not a fix, but a bandaid.

Getting exactly the same issue, driving me mad! Going to get onto the chat to see if they can fix this issue,

It would be good to hear from @Anshul_Saini /Adobe where they are with a fix, now we know it only happens when the fly-out panels are open.

thanks for that little tip, that does seem to fix the issue, its not an ideal solution for working though, Adobe need to get a fix in place for this asap, certainly seems to have been going on for quite some time, 🙂

Boosting the signal to see if Adobe have got anywhere with a fix to this ( @Anshul_Saini ) . Still driving me crazy every day.

Yes, the same thing is happening to me and it's driving me nuts!!
I'm trying to fly around doing various bits and pieces for a project and I then try to move the Illustrator window and POOF, it's gone to the back. And no matter how you try to move that window, it takes off to the back. So you have to move other things out of the way, deal with Illustrator and then go back to where you left off. I have work to do and chasing this window around is not helping. And it's only Illustrator, Photoshop is fine, all the other apps I'm using are fine as well.

I'm having, perhaps, a similar issue. I have an ultrawide monitor and have Illustrator snapped to the middle portion of the monitor. Every time that I open an illustrator project Illustrator comes un-docked and floats some random place on the screen.
It's still on top, thankfully, but it's really aggravating to have to reposition my window every time I open another illustrator project.

Oh, I found the way. Just click window > workspace > reset (workspace name). And voila it's done, you welcome.
