Illustrator CS5 Rotate Tool Anchor Point Bug

Community Beginner ,
Aug 18, 2010 Aug 18, 2010

Summary:

I can reproduce this bug consistently, every single time.  I am unable to set a new anchor point for the rotate tool in Illustrator CS5.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

1.  Create a new shape, doesn't matter what

2.  Press R or just select the rotate tool

3.  Alt-Click to pick up the anchor point and drag to a new posiiton

4.  Let the mouse go- at this point the anchor stays locked to the cursor even if I click and am only able to unlock it from the cursor if I click on a new tool, but without getting to choose a new anchor point.

Also I tried this with a Intuos 2 tablet and pen with the same results.  I have an NVidia Quadro FX 3500 card installed with the latest driver as well.

I'm not sure if this issue is related, but also in After Effects CS5 if I press 0 to start doing a preview and then click away say on Firefox, then click back to After Effects, I am unable to click around inside After Effects to get the render to stop.  It makes me wait until the whole comp is pushed into a ram preview before it unlocks itself.

Any ideas?

I have the same issue. Strange because the rotate tool in InDesign has no issues at all with my Wacom tablet. I'm using Windows 7 32bit and and Intuos Pro tablet. Illustrator version 2015.3.0

Boo!

Just jumping onto this thread in the hope that the more of us who have this problem, the more likely it will get fixed! This has been an issue for a year or two now, with every update of CC and several rounds of Wacom driver updates. I'm currently on Windows 10, Wacom Intuos Pro PTH-651 and it's still doing it with the latest CC 2017.

Select the rotate tool, hold alt to move the anchor, anchor gets stuck to the cursor FOREVER. Sometimes minimising and maximising the program drops it. Other times NOTHING drops it. ARGHHHH!

This bug is still going strong, but to complicate matters I am unable to use Illustrator 2017.

To confirm: Illustrator 2015.2.1 64 bit / Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch with latest drivers. I too can replicate the problem every time with the tablet PEN but it works fine with the TOUCH (finger) function and works fine when using a normal wired USB mouse.

You're posting into a thread that has CS5 in it's title. There won't be any fixes to CS5, so the engineers might not even read it.

If you want something to get fixed, make a bug report.

Thank you.

I opened a bug report. But as the problem seems to exist for some years I'm not very hopeful.

Same problem here too. Windows 10. CC2017. Wacom Intuos 3 and Intuos 5.

Right now turned GPU preview off, but this is pretty annoying obviously.

I have used Wacom for at least 15 years and have ALWAYS had this problem. I select the Rotation tool, I try to change the place anchor, and Illustrator just will not let me. It stuck to the mouse cursor and it does not go any further. This has always been with all versions of Windows, all versions of Illustrator and all Wacom models I've used (Graphire, Intuos4 and Intuos5Touch)

Sigh. Windows 10, CC 2018 Wacom Intuos 4, same bug. I have to force quit illustrator if I click on an anchor point, becaue the program becomes completely unresponsive to clicks or keystrokes. Alt+tab used to fix it, but not any more.

Turning off GPU isn't a comfortable solution for me as it will disable the handy animated zoom.

I did a little workaround though; by simply clicking any panel and go back to the illustration.

But still, it's a buggy thing and doesn't make a smooth work.

This problem has been occurred since the day I used the CS3 version, wonder what the guy in Adobe is doing.

Turning off GPU or using outline view didn't work for me anyway. I can only rotate using a mouse, the Wacom won't set the destination pivot point - it just gets "stuck" moving it around. This is only one of many bugs I've found with AI and Wacom, including weird things like not being able to reliably copy and paste, various "stickiness" and performance issues. Out of the dozens of applications I use each day, Illustrator is the one I dread the most; it makes me cry, and I've been using vector graphics apps since the late 80's...

You are answering a thread about version CS5.

CS5 doesn't have any business with GPU acceleration.

If your issue is about a different version, then please create a new thread.
