Question

Illustrator file preview showing correctly, but not in AI file

I was working on a project and, suddenly the file crashed. When I tried to open it, the Artboard isn't displaying properly (no more color changes, line weights changes). Although they are showing preview correctly in pdf format, but not in ai file. The layers in that ai format are still showing correctly such as color and line weights. I tried opening it in different workspaces but didn't work. Uninstall, reinstalling, restarting the PC, shutting down, updating it, didn't help. The pdf file somehow showed correctly in Photoshop but not entirely. Is there anyway to restore the file? Thanks.

Please show screenshots showing what is wrong and what you desire, and we can assist you better. Are you saying that after you make a color change it does not show,  or color changes made in the past are not showing, even though the color numbers are correct in the color palette???

Recommendations:

  1. Unlock all, select all copy and paste into a new document
  2. Open in Acrobat and do a save as to a pdf file in a new name, then open that in Illustrator. While I do not like this as it may scramble the editability of your document, might give you some useful parts and information on what happened.
  3. Toggle between outline and preview mode. You may find an element in outline mode that is not needed and when deleted can repair your document

So View > Preview does not solve it?

Did it crash while your file was saving?

Can you please show a screenshot (with title bar of the document visible) and tell us the computer specifications, system and Illustrator version?
