Illustrator OS X Bug - Measure Tool makes palettes move to main monitor

OS X 10.14.2

Mac Pro 2013 8 Core Dual 700 GPU

2 monitors – 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display, Dell UP2414Q

I have my Illustrator UI palettes all on my Dell monitor, the secondary display, saved as a workspace.

I have a large print job in front of me that is 1150mm x 4460mm, on the main monitor, the Thunderbolt display.

1. Select the MEASURE TOOL

2. Click on the document

Bam! All of the palettes on my secondary monitor move to the main monitor, the 27" Thunderbolt Display, instantly and in the same configuration they were in on the Dell.


Happens every time.

Anyone else having this issue?

    Have you saved the layout as a custom workspace yet or did you just lay them out there and start working? You should save it as a custom workspace. Then close and reopen Illustrator and they should go to the right position and stay there.

    Be sure to make your main application window on the actual computer monitor though and not on the secondary monitor. That can cause some issues with it staying in place

    Hey! Thanks for the response.

    Yes, it's a custom Workspace called Scot. To move them back, I select Reset Scot under the Workspace menu.

    And the document is on the main monitor. The palettes are on the secondary.

    I just quit the app, reloaded it with no documents open, created a new document at 8.5 inches x 11 inches, then the first thing I did was use the Measure Tool and clicked on the document and BAM the palettes moved over.

    I can semi replicate this. In my case only Info & Property docked panel moves across to the other monitor. I am on High Sierra though - may be got worse with the OS...?
