Illustrator Updated to 2025 and now not printing

New Here ,
Jan 05, 2025 Jan 05, 2025

Hello, hoping someone can help. Ive got the latest update, hadnt changed anything else and now my documents will not print. Ive reinstalled Illustrator, reinstalled my printer/drivers and also tried printing from other printers within Illustrator. No success.

I can print form InDesign, but hoping to get illustrator back up and working.

When i click the print button, the print dialog box comes up but then freezes and I have to use Ctrl, Alt, Delete to get out of illustrator altogether. Even clicking the cancel button doesnt do anything.

Please help 🙂 TIA

Hello everyone,

Our product team has rolled out a backend fix for this problem. Would you mind re-installing Illustrator 29.2.1 and confirming if it helps resolve the problem?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @StudioBlaque,

That does sound odd. Would you mind confirming the exact version of Windows/Illustrator installed on your computer?
Also, can you try running Illustrator under a different administrator account to see if it works there: (https://adobe.ly/41Z8CNV)?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @defaultd0krx8m5k2cs,

Thanks for sharing your experience. To investigate this issue further, could you confirm the following details?

1. The version of Illustrator and Windows/macOS you’re using.

2. Is the printer connected locally, through a network, or via Wi-Fi?

3. Does the issue occur with all files or specific ones?

4. Have you tried resetting Illustrator preferences? (Refer to: Reset preferences)

5. Can you check if the issue persists when using a different user profile or administrator account (Windows) (macOS)?

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you might want to try printing a test file in Safe Mode (Windows) (macOS) or after a clean boot. Let us know how it goes!

Best,

Anshul Saini

I can confirm I have the same issue when trying to print from 29.2.1. The 'sending print' dialog opens and it hangs indefinitely on 0%. Printing from other apps to the same printer works fine.

Reverting to 29.1 fixes the issue. I suggest using the 'other versions' option in Creative Cloud to revert while they figure out what they broke.

Thank you for sharing your experiences; I understand how disruptive it can be to encounter printing issues while using Illustrator.

To help the product team investigate further, could you please provide the following details?

1. The version of Windows (e.g., Windows 11, version 22H2) or macOS (e.g., macOS Ventura 13.5) you are using.

2. The file format you are trying to print (e.g., .PNG, .JPG, .AI, .PDF, etc.).

3. The printer make and model (e.g., Epson EcoTank L3250, Canon PIXMA TS9520).

4. An MSInfo file to capture detailed system information. Here’s how to generate it:

• On Windows: Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and click OK. Then, go to File > Export and save the file.

• On macOS: Use About This Mac > More Info > System Report, then select File > Save to generate the file.

Additionally, please confirm:

• Whether the printer is connected locally, through a network, or via Wi-Fi.

• Whether the issue occurs with all files or only specific ones.

Your input will be instrumental in diagnosing the issue. For now, reverting to version 29.1, as suggested, remains a practical workaround.

Looking forward to your response!

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi @Anshul_Saini thanks for touching base here. I'm traveling so can't get everything for you but that machine is on Win10 and only today installed 22h2 so would have been on whatever is before that. I got the same error regardless of printer, so model is irrelevant. All the printers on that machine are network connected so using network ports. All files I tested in Illustrator failed, but printing in Photoshop worked (sorry not sure exact version as I'm not at that machine, hopefully others can illuminate).

Thank you for sharing the details you could provide despite being on the move, @Crashless.

When you have access to the machine again, could you please confirm the following?
1. The file format(s) you were trying to print (e.g., .PNG, .JPG, .AI, .PDF, etc.).
3. An MSInfo file, as outlined in my previous message, to assist with system diagnostics.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello @Crashless and @Cascadia Screen Printing,

Thank you for sharing these details.

The product team has identified this printing issue as reproducible on Windows 10 systems and has logged it as a bug. It does not appear to affect Windows 11. The team is actively working on a resolution.

In the meantime, reverting to Illustrator 29.1 remains the most reliable workaround. If you need assistance with this, please let me know.

@Cascadia Screen Printing, we appreciate you providing the additional information that will aid the investigation.

Thank you for your patience as we work on a fix.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini
