Basically I just want it to tell me how much of the Artwork is covered by ink. is this even possible? It doesnt have to be a percentage of A color just a total coverage.

Hi cbishop01 ,

I don't think that's possible at all.

It would only be meaningful if you consider a distinct PDF export setting, because color will or has to be converted depending on the export. Complicated matter…

Even if you consider a workaround and place your AI files in InDesign, InDesign could only show optically if total coverage is beyond a certain threshold, but you cannot do any read outs of CMYK values from this special preview by scripting there.

So I think this task should be postponed to e.g. Acrobat Pro and its preflight capabilities.

And if that cannot be done there to your satisfaction to special workflows with tools like pdfToolbox or Pitstop.

Regards,
Uwe

Thank you for getting back to me. I knew it was a long shot i was just trying to get an easy way to calculate how much of a label is covered in ink. I'll check into Acrobat and its plugins i'm going to guess that the same issue will arise for those as well.

There is also plugin from Esko, which can do it, but it's much more expensive than the INKQUEST.
