hello all, Illustrator question :

i have several objects on layer 1.

I want to move some of them to layer2. So I choose object A, select layer 2 and "send to current lyer". ok. now I want to select an other object on layer 1. I select object B but now target layer is back to layer 1  so I have to select AGAIN layer 2 before doing the "send to current layer".

It appears that some time, I don't know how, it KEEPS the target layer as layer 2. So it makes it much faster to move a quantity of objects to layer2.

But how can I DECIDE to have it working that way ???

I tried Ctrl, Alt... to no avail

Help needed and would be deeply appreciated

I'm not sure you can select an item without the layer being "highlighted"

when you select an object there's a "square" selection indicator to the right of the host layer, you could drag that square and drop it on the destination layer...is that an option?

If I had to to do this a lot, I would do a little set up as follows

- draw a rectangle in the destination layer

- add a Note to it in the Attributes Panel, it could be anything, let's say "selectme"

- record an Action to select the "selectme" rectangle, record a second step Edit->Paste In Front, stop recording

- Assign a shortcut key to your action

now when I want to move an object, I would select it, Press Ctrl+X to cut it, then press my shortcut key to run my action. The Action will select the rectangle and paste my object in front of it (same as move it to the taget layer)

[edit] I just realized, I could include Cutting the Object into my Action to do this quicker. Also it may be wiser to do Paste in Back

thank you Carlos but it is not the solution I am after.

The point is when a layer is selected, there are TWO indicators : the dot and the triangle. I my example, the triangle stays on the TARGET layer and the dot is on the SOURCE layer. so when i select an object on the source layer the dot is there but the triangle remains on the target layer, making it easy with the appropriate shortcut , to fast send objects from layer 1 to 2.

I experienced that sometimes but I guess I made a certtain move but I don't know what !

ok, but does cut / paste give you different results than send to layer?

It would work but I wanted to know if there was a way to activate a command that ACTUALLY works but I can't find how it starts.
