No matter what version of Illustrator, the color of the clipping mask will be wrong when the eyedrop

This has been reported at UserVoice and merged with the existing report here

A workaround I use is to click the edge of the filled clipping mask — then the value gets picked correctly.

Definitely a bug — please upvote it.

I can recreate the problem:

Create 2 objects, select them and create a clipping mask.

Apply a color to the mask.

Create an object.

Use the Eyedropper to pick up the mask color outside the clipped object.

The resulting color is different than the mask color.

The color is correct when the Eyedropper is inside the clipped object.

Are you in CMYK document color mode?
