Object-->Blend -->Make

Usually Object-->Blend -->Make's one new image in between two already exisiting images but in my case it makes many. What is the reason?

Double click the Smooth Blend Tool in the Tools panel, it is probably set to Smooth Color.

You can set this option before using the Blend tool.

Select objects and Go To Object menu -> Blend-> Blend Option

That's what double clicking the blend tool does.
