Question

Offset path does not follow shape

Hi everyone!
I have a problem with the offset path or stroke (tried them both)
I am preparing a file for a embossing die and when I use the offset tool/stroke tool it looks like the offset does not follow the orginal shape correctly, see blue dotted circle. I tried to change the numbers of the offset and miter but the text is a bit small so any change will make a huge difference. Is there an other way how I can do this? For this I used the appearance/stroke feature/ 1.5px as this has the best outcome.

You could try using the Round setting rather than Miter for the Joins setting in the Offset Path dialog box. But when Offset Path effects go far enough outside the source object, such as serif letters, those curves going around the serifs on the letters are going to stop being curves and turn into corners.

Hi Bobby,
I tried the round but the effect is still the same, so I guess that I hit the limit for the offset with the corners. Thanks for your explanation.

Looking closely I do not think that there are any corners at the serifs of the Garamond. THey are round.

The letters in most versions of Garamond (such as Adobe Garamond Pro) have rounded corners. But paths that are offset from the original letter shapes can follow those curves only so far away from the original source path. The curved corners become sharp.

Hi Michael,
The text is Cormorant Garamond but I outlined it so it's a shape now.

Anne,

As I (mis)understand it, what if you switch Join from Round to Miter?
