PEN PRESSURE IN ILLUSTRATOR CC 2017 NOT WORKING?

I am a newby to Illustrator so I decided to follow a tutorial on tracing using the calligraphic brush option. Everything was falling into place until I reached the step to choose pressure on the brush option. The only options it gave me to select is fixed and random options. I did some research online and found this has been an ongoing problem? I tried all the internet tricks like uninstall then reinstall illustrator,changing my preferences none of those worked at all? Anyone else have this problem? How did you solve it? Any insight would be great! Thanks in advance.
