Pressure greyed out Illustrator - XP Artist 13.3 Pro

Illustrator 2022 26.0.1, Macbook Pro, Catalina 10.15.7, XP Artist 13.3 Pro

Tried for a few days now to get pen pressure working without success. Searched here and Google for solutions and tried all suggestions, nothing seems to work.

  • Can't create a new pressure brush.
  • Calligraphic brushes are not pressure sensitive when selected, and only 'fixed' and 'random' are available in the brush options.
  • Wacom 6D library brushes are pressure sensitive however and work perfectly.
  • All appropriate access has been granted in Security and privacy with the excetion of Automation - I can't get Illustator to appear in there.
  • I've added Apllications/XP-PenPenTabletPro to Plug-ins & Scratch Disks
  • Reinstalled all drivers and Illustrator no success.
  • I've seen some threads saying to install Illustrator 2020 but can't do that as its unavailable.

I've also seen a declined fix from Adobe as blame has been apportioned to Wacom drivers. Surely this can't be so as this is XP-Pen?

Hi All,

We are sorry for the trouble caused. We understand this is a long-standing issue, but it is resolved with update v26.2.1. Please update the app. This update fixes the issue of Wacom tablets not having pen pressure on macOS.

However, if you are not using a Wacom tablet, then I would suggest you install both the Wacom driver & your tablet driver, which will help you get the pen pressure. This is a tested resolution for Non-Wacom tablets, and we have confirmed this with multiple users. Let me know if it works for you.

I hope this helps!

Thanks & Regards,

@Anshul_Saini Thanks 😉

That works with my Xencelabs Pen Tablet Medium SE.

My Illustrator version is: 26.3.1 for Apple Mac

Hi,

Thanks for continuing to try to help rather than brush it under the carpet. There are lots of people with the same issue so it would be good to get a solution.

I followed those steps with the exception of the scratch disk folder. I got the message "The specified folder contains other Plug-ins folders. Please specify another folder." when I tried to select Macintosh HD. I was able to select the Application folder however.

Unfortunately, there is no change. Pressure still does not work.

I have spoken with XP-Pen who say this a known issue with Ilustrator. Illustrator does not install itself correctly on Macs. Illustrator should create an entry in System Preferences > Privacy > Automation and then it can be set to control the tablet.

Apparently, only Illistrator 2020 does this which is why those that managed to get hold of this version before it was removed had success.

Same problems arise for all Pen Tablets apparently. Based on this, it would seem a fix is needed for the latest version to allow this entry and then we should be good to go?

Can this be escalated for a fix please?

In order to get the 2020 version, try and contact Customer Care https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

The Wacom driver trick doesn't seem to work anymore. There are the very same issues with Wacom tablets.

So this is not a Wacom issue it's an Illustrator issue?

Nobody can locate it. It's somewhere between the system (Mac OS trying to block anything from reaching the computer), the tablet drivers and their  messed up install and setup operations, and Illustrator.

From what I've heard you can install Xencelabs tablets pretty well, so looks like it's not impossible.
