problem with using smart guides

I am running MacOS Catalina, version 10.15.6 and Illustrator 27 if that is what they call it of 2023. The smart guides are turned on under "view". Previously if I was to align two boxes one on top of the other as soon as the centre "X" get close together they align one on top of the other automaticly. Now they don't. If anything when putting to lines one on top of the other it places the line alway offset automanicly. Never had such problem before. The same goes for the little box that follows the white arrow, it's always grayed out. Why??

Smart guides is the perfedt tool if it works properly. This has all happen sence I upgraded in Sept. if correct.

I am having the exact same problem and I'm really surprised I can't find anyone else talking about it. It's incredibly frustrating and turning the smart guides settings on and off and restarting my computer hasn't worked at all. I have no idea what to do.

Hello @alilycat,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps? If the problem persists, kindly share more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, the exact details of your workflow, and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/3Kekwtd), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Good day and thanks for requesting such info. As for the system I am running "MacOS Catalina, version 10.15.6". As for illustrator it shows "27.0" or 2022 I guess. Catalina can no longer upgrade. I am at my max and can not afford another computer expense. What to do next? As you can see in the video, the sizing box is always black, can not see the numbers. They usually if Smart guides is selected, all I need to do is get but center "X" close to each other and it shoud align by itself. It does not. I must manually place it. NO fun! Same thing goes when to lines are very close together, I can not drop them one on top of the other so that is turns pink and be know that it is perfectly alignes. Why? Another thing that happens is when I save my work, a secondary window opens, do I see it, no. It opens so fare to the left of the screen that I must scroll to it so to be able to click on it. All this has happen since an upgrade in Sept. 2023. NOT good my friend!

Make sure your other settings (e.g. for Snap) aren't interfering. e.g. if you have Snap to Grid on, that can often override how Smart Guides functions

Good day! Funny you say that. I do not see a “Snap to Grid” under preferences. I do see a “Snap to Point under “Selection & Anchor Display. NO such area I can click on that is called “Snap to Grid” anywhere under preferences. It use to be there. Never had such problem before. Only after my upgrade in September or around the time. Please help!
