Random text paste when doing Option+Drag in Illustrator on macOS

Community Beginner ,

I have encountered a very odd problem.

Every time I do Option+Drag in Illustrator on a Mac there is some inexplicable text paste acrros the artboard. The text is pretty much gibberish and unrelated to anything that I have been doing or copying and pasting,

Tried restarting, opeinig new documetns. Quit my clipboard management software.

Latest version of both Mac OS and Illustrator.

Please help. I am trying to learn Illustrator for the first time. It is so painful to encounter bugs on your first run with the new software.

Do you have any clipboard extensions running in your system?

Anything that enhances your keyboard shortcuts or your mouse?

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Yes, I have popclip, but I disabled it and restarted without it.

Did not help.

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble you are facing. In addition to the @Monika Gause questions, I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • The exact macOS and version of Illustrator
  • Does the issue happen while working on a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Are there any apps running in the background? Does closing them one by one help resolve the issue?
  • Does uninstalling the popclip help resolve the issue?
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Also, you may try running the app in Safe Mode & Root Account and share your observation with us.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
