Reading a file error and Saving error

New Here ,
Jul 31, 2025 Jul 31, 2025

I have been facing this issue since the past 3 days. I have saved a realtively light file. It gets saved the first time but then it refuses to save again. I have changed my performance setting from GPU to CPU as well. There is a PARM error also that keeps popping in this. While saving it the second time, it gets saved but the loading of saving in the background popup doesn't go anywhere. I have to press stop multiple times for it to go away. But then when i have to open the file this pop up shows.

Anyone who can help, please do! I have a portfolio to make 😞

Can you try if saving on the local hard disk without Saving in Background works better?

Hi @Parth Sanghavi,

Thanks for sharing the details, and I'm really sorry to hear this is blocking your portfolio work. I can imagine how frustrating that must be.

To better assist you, could you please confirm the version of Illustrator and the operating system you're using? Also, let me know if this issue is happening with just this particular file or with other files as well.

Where exactly are you saving the file? Is it on your local hard drive, a network location, a cloud folder like OneDrive or Dropbox, or an external drive?

It would be great if you could also try the suggestion shared by the expert and disable the Save in Background option from Illustrator's File Handling preferences, then check if the issue persists.

Additionally, I recommend testing this in Safe Mode to help isolate any system-level conflicts.

For macOS: https://adobe.ly/4lUiIGW

Please try these steps and let me know how it goes.

Abhishek

Hi @Abhishek Rao I am using the latest version of Illustrator which is 29.7. This issue is happening in all the files that I am using, the new ones that I make from scratch, the already saved one's and also duplicated ones.

I am saving this file on my local hard drive. I am using a Vivobook Pro 16 laptop. I tried disabling the save in bg feature and now it is stuck at progress tab, as shown in the image attached.

Also, tried doing the safe mode option and the issue still persisted

Hello @defaultgjnqnjx2s1sd,

I'm sorry to hear the suggestions did not help. Could you also try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows) and checking if it helps?
If the problem persists, try the following steps and share your observations:

Looking forward to hearing from you.

@Anubhav M @Abhishek Rao so after trying a bunch of more things, and also the things that you guys suggested, there are 3 files that don't work correctly on my laptop. Other than that any new file that I make and anything else that i do work completely fine. I don't really know what the issue is. i tried saving this file on the cloud and surprisingly it is working quite fine there.

Hello @defaultgjnqnjx2s1sd,

Thanks for confirming. Could you try copying the layers/objects from these problematic files to a new one and then saving it to see if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Anubhav

Hey, @Anubhav M
I tried doing it and it would work fine for 5-10 mins and then give me the same issue

Hi @Parth Sanghavi,

Thanks again for all the details you've shared so far. Really appreciate you sticking with it.

Could you try saving one of the affected files using an older version of Illustrator, such as version 28.7.8, and see if that makes any difference? You can follow the steps here to install a previous version: https://adobe.ly/4oIjJEb

Also, if the issue still occurs, it might be worth checking whether any specific fonts, linked assets, or effects in the file are contributing to the problem. Try removing them one at a time to see if that helps isolate the cause.

And if you're okay with it, feel free to share one of the problematic files privately, so we can test it on our end as well.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes.
Abhishek
