Script to add pieces of text together

I'm working with lines of text that are made up of multiple pieces of text. I need to change the text pieces so that they are all one text object. I've been doing it manually by selecting the text pieces on the line, cutting them, clicking with the Type tool and pasting them so that they become all one piece. This works, but is tedious and time consuming. Does anyone know of a script that would be helpful for combining pieces of text into a single line?
