Slices create from guides doesn't match guides

Community Beginner ,
Nov 01, 2021 Nov 01, 2021

Hello,

I am having problems using the Slices>Create from Guides which do not line up.

It's only 1px difference but this causes a big problem for my work as my images need to be the exact width as they are used to code up an email.

Here is the top right hand corner of the artboard with the guides: ( 1440px wide )

Screenshot 2021-11-01 at 11.43.12.png

And here is the same view after using Slices>Create from Guides:

Screenshot 2021-11-01 at 11.41.14.png

As you can see, it is not lined up with the guide on the right. When I export the image it ends up being 1439px wide.

So I end up having to open it in Photoshop and modify the canvas size to 1440px. Then save it again but this is time consuming and beats the purpose of the tool.

There are definitely no other hidden guides in my file.

I also made sure that the X and Y position of my artboard are rounded numbers and aligned to top left:

Many thanks in advance!

Isa

Hello Anshul,

Thank you for your reply. To answer your questions:

I did have a look at the suggestions in the post you mentioned. The 1st response suggests using artboards for each slice which is a way around it but not very practical for my work. I design emails so need to see them and share them as a whole. This would mean I would have to seperate each banner from the email in different artboard which doesn't help with designing it and makes the process more time consuming. The second reply talks about creating a pattern of a vector, but I am not working with vectors, I am working with high res images and text.

I hope you can help me resolve the issue.

Many thanks for your time!

Best,

Isa Pinder

Thanks for sharing the file. Could you please share the missing link images? So we can check it out properly. Also, please share a small video of your workflow of creating slices and demonstrating the issue. It would be really helpful for us.

Hi Anshul,

Here is the link to the file with all images embedded: https://assets.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:EU:2710d8a7-3c4c-4ca0-b424-f62ac18af750?view=difile

As for demonstrating the issue, once I have dragged the guides I am simply going to Object>Slice>Create from Guides

You can revert the action if you go back to Object>Slices>Delete All and then try again following the same steps above. Same result with the slices not aligning and not matching the guides.

Thanks,

Isa

Thanks for sharing the revised file. I would suggest you to turn on smart guides & snap to point to align your guides & content perfectly inside the Artboard. After doing that, slices are perfectly aligned when you do Object>Slice>Create from Guides. Most of your content is not aligned correctly inside the Artboard, and guides were slightly off from the content & Artboard. Try this and let me know if it helps in your next project/document.

Hi Anshul,

Thank you for your suggestions.

I checked my file and the Smart Guides as well as the Snap to Point were already turned on.

But you are correct some of the content is not aligned and goes past the Artbord. I corrected this to make sure it is all aligned. I even simplified the artwork to check if it would work. I then deleted all the guides I had previously and re-positioned them so thay are inline with artboard. But it is still not working!

What I find strange is that after doing Object>Slices>Create from Guides, it will show correctly Slice 01 as the top banner and Slice 02 the  banner underneath:

Screenshot 2021-11-18 at 15.52.09.png

However when I go and Save for Web the Slices exported are as follows:

Screenshot 2021-11-18 at 15.57.57.png

So again the first slice_01 is 1439px instead of 1440px

And Slice_02 is a 1px width... Slice_03 is the second banner.

Thanks,

Isa

Thanks for letting us know that. I again checked it is still not correctly aligned. I aligned it, and slices are exporting as intended. https://assets.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:AP:58fd4eb4-f836-423a-9c21-bae5fae45fd4?view=difile

Can you please be more specific? Which elements were not aligned?

I also can't download the file you shared : issue with guides slicing Fixed

Can you please make it downloadable to I can grasp how the issue was fixed?

Thank you,

Isa

I adjusted & aligned the background rectangle and the guides perfectly to the artboard by zooming in. Here is the downloadable version of the file from which I exported the sliced image (https://shared-assets.adobe.com/link/758a4e41-77e3-4610-5f1d-7134bd8a4c21). I am also attaching the exported image. I hope it helps!

Thanks Anshul but I can't access the link to the Illustrator file:

Also a big issue I am having is that Illustrator is not letting me drag and place Guides at 64000%. Which is the only way for me to be sure the guides are exactly aligned with the artboard. Is there any way around this?

Thanks,

Isa

If the guide is unlocked and selected you can set the x y position in the transform panel.
