I am trying to outline strokes in illustrator but keep getting the same error.

I have upgraded to the latest illustrator, restarted my computer etc but nothing changes.

I have tried copying the file over to another file but that doesnt work either.

I realised I posted the wrong screengrab as I had the whole had selected, however your comment helped because I realised I needed to expand the paint fill for it to work and now it outlines strokes,

thank you!

Post a screenshot with the stroke selected with Direct Selection Tool (white, type "a") and the appearance panel open.

I had the same issue and it was because the strokes were grouped so I just had to ungroup them, for anyone else experiencing the same issue.

(Possibly a silly blunder on my part.)

Have you tried doing it with a completely different new file..? just to test? Have you cleared your preferences?

Hi! yes I have tried in a new file and also cleared preferences - still get the same error.

If I draw a stroke in the same file and outline it - it works its just the illustration that is causing the problem.
