Unable to Save after updating to macOS Monterey v12.3 & Illustrator v26.1 - Save as Greyed out

This is happening to me. Just updated Monterey (V.12.3)  & Illustrator (V.26.1) & saving as is no longer an option.

Currently duplicating files in finder, renaming and then working on these and them regular saving seems to work but its not the most elegant workaround. One would think that an issue that has been solved for a half year wouldn't return with every single update. Super annoying.

Hi All,

We are glad to inform you that the save button greyed out/ unclickable issue has been addressed. We worked with Apple and addressed this issue with the latest macOS update, v12.3.1, released last week. I would request you to update and let us know if the issue still persists.

Regards,

Hi All,

We are really sorry for the trouble. We are working with Apple to resolve the issue.

In the meantime, I would request you all to try the following workarounds:

  • Resize the Save As dialog and check.
  • If that doesn't help, then pan around with the dialog and check if the Save button appears.

I hope it helps!

Thanks & Regards,

I don't think it is solved. I am using Monterey 12.3 with M1 Mac, and has this issue of not being able to save.

You might want to read all the messages (start from the end of the thread). Some people have found workarounds.

Scaling down the window worked for me, too - button turned blue. Weird one.

Ok everyone, please notice:

There might be an easier solution (so easy it actually made me mad for spending so much time trying to find a "fix" to the bug: watch the video attached and see what happens when i resize a Save Dialogue window the just refused to save with the infamous grey button.
Since I noticed several other display bugs and quirks (on cip preview, on an external display, with M1) I assume this greyed button could just have been a display issue.
Try resizing your window and best of luck!

Well, thanks a lot!!

The resize solution works fine for me with 12.3. The problem didn't occur in Adobe but in Safarai and Finder in general since the last OS update.

It's March 20, and I'm having issues saving files on my desktop in Illustrator. The 'Save' button is grayed out... HELP!!!!

Maybe you can try this:

Copy an old Illustrator file in the Finder. Rename the copy to the name your new file should have. Open it in Illustrator. Delete everything in the file. If you can save it, use it for your new creation.

Good luck!

Same problem happening here, no ability to save a document or cancel out of a save window. No way to get out of the dialog box, stuck in save window with no options available.  OS 12.3, Illustrator all updated (v26.1)

Hi Anshul and hello community.

I am not sure who fixed what, but I do have automatic updates activated on my machine so while I didn't do anything big or manually, suddenly it started working again this morning. I randomly took a crack at saving something and it worked.

Attached is a screenshot of the now 'not greyed out' saved button. (cool 3d tool update btw adobe team)

So now I can once again access all directories and folders using 'save as' and am free to work on newly created files as well as saving existing work into new formats. (for example ai to pdf)

My OX is Monterey 12.3 (21E230)

illustrater version 26.1

Have a good weekend and I hope everyone else also gets this sorted out ASAP.

If your OOBE is corrupt saving can be disabled.

OOBE RESET MAC

  • Quit the Creative Cloud desktop app  (100% you must do this)
  • /Users/<user folder>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE
  • The \Users\<user folder>\Library\ is hidden by default for macOS 10.7 and above. See Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later for instructions to access it.
  • Delete all the files within the OOBE folder, but do not delete the folder itself.
  • Restart the computer and launch the Creative Cloud desktop app again.

I have performed the steps. Then I started Illustrator and the Save button was still grayed out. Then I resized the dialog box and then suddenly the button turned blue and could be clicked. An error message came up: The illustration could not be saved. You do not have sufficient access rights. ID: -5000.
But then at the next attempt to save everything was ok! I can save files again now!

Hi All,
@Matt East @Designholzer @salomo

We are sorry for the trouble. We have logged a bug with the Product team, and they have started investigating the issue.

It seems the issue started right after the release of the macOS Monterey v12.3, as it is happening with the new & older version of Illustrator.

I would request you all to please upvote this UserVoice (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/44917468-can-t-save-as-on-your-computer-dissable-button) if not done already. By doing this, you will keep getting updates on the issue.

Also, we checked on multiple Mac machines running macOS Monterey v12.3 and were unable to replicate the issue.

We checked with multiple users on a remote session, and installing an older version also didn't help.

I checked the @Jakub Kasparek case, and uninstalling the whole creative cloud resolved the issue for him. However, it is not an ideal or recommended resolution.

I would request you all to please share a few details it would really help us investigate the issue:

  • Please confirm you are running macOS Monterey v12.3
  • Please confirm the exact Illustrator version you are using
  • Please confirm that the save option is greyed out and is unclickable (Share a screenshot if possible)
  • Where are you trying to save the files? (Please mention the location or destination folder name)
  • Share the SPX file from MAC (Most Important).
Click on Apple Icon > About this Mac > System Report
This will launch the System Profiler
Then Click File > Save > Save in Creative Cloud Files or anywhere you like.
Then open https://assets.adobe.com/files if saved on the Creative Cloud folder.
Click on three dots next to spx file > Share > Copy Link and paste the download/ copy link here.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Anshul Saini

My configuration: macOS 12.3, MBP 16" (2019) Intel i9, 32 GB RAM, Illustrator 26.1

The mouse is completely "dead". I can’t select anything. Just the Format popup menu works. With tab key and keyboard I can select a folder, but the Save button keep grayed out. The Cancel button doesn’t work. The only way to get out is via esc key.
