Uneven stroke using width tool

I am wanting to use the width tool to widen the stroke of the red line to match the black line, but when I get the bounding box to the desired size, it goes all wonky and uneven like this. I want it to be even on both sides. As you can see, the width point edit box claims that the sides are both the same, but it is not appearing as such.

Help would be appreciated!

Can you select that path and show the Appearance panel?

Or maybe upload a demo file that contains this path? Change the file extension to PDF in order to upload here.

Let me know if this helps. There are a few lines doing this on the bottom of the front face of the cube and a few lines on the top face as well.

I don't know if this is noteworthy or not, but it seems to only happen at the beginning/end of a path, depending on which direction the path is going.

Does it still do that when you do View > Preview on CPU?

It does not do that for me.
