Use Objects on Path tool to arrange objects on inside of a curve

I would like to use the objects on path tool to arrange some outlined letters on the inside curve of a path (so it curves up, like a U shape and the letters are readable). However, even if it's an open path, the letters are always arranged upside down around the bottom of the path (which would be the outside of a circle if it was closed). I've attached an image of what the default arrangement is.

Is there a way to designate which way the letters attach to the path, or to flip which side of the path they're arranged on like with the type on a path tool?
