Have you recently updated your system to MacOS 14? If you have, you may want to read the info at this link.
Lots of users are finding rude surprises like yours when running InDesign on Sonoma, which isn't fully supported yet.

Try hiding your rulers and seeing if that helps.
The bug has been fixed with 14.3 installed. I checked with the ruler on the screen without GPU acceleration or HiDPI resolution.

Bummer that I didn't find this answer until after updating my system and my InDesign. This screen flicker is a big annoyance. I haven't had an issue in the past when upgrading so hadn't thought to check compatibility. I hope the powers that be fix the issue sooner rather than later. I primarily work in InDesign.

I also am experiencing this error, super annoying. One workaround I found for scrolling is if you select outside of the InDesign window (click on your desktop for example) then hover your cursor back into the InDesign document, you can scroll without the white screen appearing.

I've been having this problem as well, and hiding the rulers fixed it... really dumb though, as I will need to turn them off and on now.

Today, Monday, January 22 at 10 am Pacific, Apple released the update to macOS Sonoma 14.3.
According to beta testers, this release should solve the display problems in earlier Sonoma versions. The problems did not occur for everyone. I ran Sonoma 14.2 with no problems so I can't verify that this solves the display problems.
If you are running Sonoma, download the update and see whether your problems have been fixed.

Try dragging a couple or three times after launching and opening the Indesign file. The screen would turn white at first and then back to normal. I'm using a Mac Mini M1 with Indesign 19.1 installed.
