Correcting footnote numbering after moving pages

I'm working on a book-length project. I moved a chapter from near the back to near the front. I did this by using Layout>Pages. The footnotes in the moved pages still have their old numbering - I would have thought they would automatically renumber to reflect their new position. I tried cutting and repasting, but that had no effect. How do I fix them?

    Hi MarieMeyer:

I moved a chapter from near the back to near the front. I did this by using Layout>Pages.

It sounds like you are laying out the document as a single file, so it's an issue with the text threads. You can see this if you:

    1. View > Extras > Show Text Threads
    2. Zoom way out
    3. Select a frame

A better approach to moving a section is to select the text with the Type tool, cut it from the current position, and paste it into the text in the new position. (Again, don't select the frames to copy, highlight the text with the Type tool.) This keeps the text threads intact, and the footnote numbers will update automatically.

I agree with Barb (and did not catch the “Layout > Pages”—sorry for reading too fast!)

Are you using the Book feature? If so, did you go to the Book panel menu and select Update Numbering > Update All Numbers?
