drag to copy in Indesign?

Suddenly it's not possible to option + shift and drag an item to duplicate it in 16.4. Is this another feature that Adobe in its finite wisdom has deleted from the program? Or is there another way to do it?

It should still work.
What's your OS?
Sounds silly, but have you tried rebooting?
Any anti-virus software installed (turning it off temporarily help out at all?)
Any other software recently installed (could be hijacking the shortcut)?
Try resetting your preferences:
The easiest way to reset everything is to delete the InDesign preferences: as soon as InDesign starts to boot hold down Shift, Alt, Ctrl (and Apple/Cmd if working on a Macintosh). A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

It still works. What other features have you found in InDesign that have been "deleted"?

Did you try option, then click and drag what you need. I do not use shift.

And this morning it is working as mysteriously as it would not. I did try to delete the preferences but the option to do so did not appear.
I don't remember what Adobe has changed/deleted, but I remember something being gone. Or perhaps I'm confusing the issue with their incipient destruction of font libraries, forcing everyone to use only their fonts.
My thanks to those who replied.

I use only fonts that are installed on my own machine and for which I have an actual license. You are not forced to use the cloud based font collection, but it's certainly a great resource for folks who don't already have an extensive collection.

Hi there,
Glad to hear that your issue is resolved now. This generally happens when the third-party application is interfering with InDesign. In that case, you may try running the app in Safe Mode and launch InDesign only. Then, open other applications one by one, which were opened before to find the culprit app or process with the help of the Activity monitor. In Safe Mode, your system starts to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening.
Please feel free to reach out if you run into any other questions or issues in the future. We'd be happy to help.
Regards,
Anshul Saini
