The text on the dedication page and the copyright appears at the top of the screen in Kindle Previewer 3 but looks fine in iBooks. I don't need the text perfectly vertically aligned in the center of the page but would like it to be down a bit from the very top of the page.
I'm using the latest version of Indesign--though the issue exists in 16.4 and am exporting to epub 2.0.1 as well as 3.0. I've tried using paragraph styles, specifically the "space before" function, to no avail. Have also tried to insert nonbreaking spaces above the text--also to no avail.
Would love any advice anyone has.

Using more than 1 succeeding return is typogrphically not permitted and will be ignored in EPUBs.
Using soft breaks to force a distance is neither a good idea, it is also ignored.
To get space use space before and after in paragraph styles.
To get text in the center of a page, make a text frame along the border guide lines and in the object styles set the vertical text to center.
