By default, ID separates between the main text area and the FN area with a horizontal line. Is there a way i can insert a graphic (got some beautiful Gothic separators from Adobe stock!) instead? Also, I would like to add some text to the separator like "Here and below are my FN", Even in Microsoft Word you can do this so I am sure there is a way in ID.
Thank You
Susan

It should be possible to script it:

Excuse my cosmic ignorance but I don't see any option in that dialog box to insert a graphic or text as the separator. Just to change the line style and width.
Am I missing something

No there isn't built-in way - that's why I wrote "possible to script it".
There is "Offset" value that can be used to find location of the line and add what you need.

Thank you for your attention!
Could you point me to some references where I can see how using a script you can get "behind the scenes" and play around with the contents of a file? I just thought that script would be automating commands, but if there is no option to change the line how would a script know what to do?
Any and l references are appreciated!

I don't think I can point you anywhere - I can only describe "the algorithm". Unless you want to learn scripting?
Script would've to read BaseLine of the contents of the 1st Footnote in the current TextFrame, read the value of the Offset, then create additional TextFrame - for your extra text - and Rectangle - for your extra image.
Not sure - would've to check when I get to my laptop - but the "extras" could be anchored and then only moved when a different Footnote become 1st.
And writing the above sentence, I've realised, that this "math" and creation of the objects can be done only once - then duplicated to each TextFrame with Footnotes - no need to do it again and again for every TextFrame.
If you work on a PC - I can quickly add it to my ID-Tasker.
BTW, almost finished support for multiple types / kinds of Footnotes - including import from WORD - but for now they've to be mixed.

Yes, I am on PC, but I am not exactly sure what you are offering here...

Could you elaborate on what you mean by multiple types of FN? Multiple streams? I would be very interested in that. One set of footnotes for Jimm and one set of FN for Jill.
There is a Mac program that does this see here https://www.mellel.com/
I have a friend who did some nice stuff with FN, see here https://www.id-extras.com/products/footwork/
which I need but all this is going to cost me sooooo much money....

That what I wrote above was just an idea - not implemented yet.

Can't do anything for Mac users - that can be used DIRECTLY - and can't offer - for now - what ID-Extras is offering - but if you could elaborate what do you need to achieve - then I'll try.
And overall, taking into consideration what my tool can do already and its unlimited potential - it costs less than peanuts - I'm practically giving it for free...
I'm VERY BAD at making video tutorials - but here is an example of what you can do - friend of mine asked me to find a solution for replacing objects - but preserve linked images:

I think this utility to automate tasks in InDesign could be very useful. How can I get it?
