I don't have the option in the latest InDesign 2024 (version 19.3) preferences to turn off the welcome screen. When I go to Preferences > General, there is no option to click it off. It's just not there. I have dumped preferences and still no luck. Anyone else out there have this issue and know how to fix it? I'm on a new Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.2.1

BTW, the reset button in Preferences is new in 19.3 and I believe using that button is the same thing as using the keyboard shortcut on launch at the top of the post I linked to. Sometimes that takes care of things and sometimes it doesn't.

If you're still having an issue after using either, then continue reading that post to get into the hidden folders and delete the preference files/cache manually. They rebuild when you restart the program, and that usually takes care of most of inDesign's erratic behavior. (If that makes you nervous, you can rename the original files and folders instead of deleting them. They will still rebuild themselves, but you can restore the old ones if you decide you want to.)

curious - as you said you dumped preferences already - what's different now?

Hi Ellen:

I have it in 19.3 (macOS Ventura). As I recall, this issue has surfaced a few times over the years, and it's been an issue of corrupt preferences and not the version.

You might try working through this post:

Yes I agree it's a problem with my Sonoma OS. I opened ID on my older MacBook running Monterey and the option is there. Grrrrrrrrrrr . . . .

Thanks for the info and link!

Honestly, Ellen, I'm still too nervous to upgrade to Sonoma. Most users are saying it's working great now, but I don't want to take the risk. I was all set to upgrade last week and then was working with someone and was watching these weird lines coming and going on her screen. Disabling the rulers took care of it, but that means there's still something not quite right, even on Sonoma 14.4.

That said, I still think it's a preferences issue on your Sonoma system. Can you give that a try?

Can you show a screenshot of your Preferences?

It should be the top one

Yes I know this.

Here is a screen shot of my preferences > general.  The option to turn this off is not there.

Curious - I seem to be missing 'Reset Preferences on Quit' in mine... trying to update InDesign to latest version now.
