Importing Indesign swf/fla into Animate and creating gifs

New Here ,
Jun 04, 2019 Jun 04, 2019

Hi

I am trying to create swf/fla animations in Indesign and then import them into Animate to turn them into gifs. The files I am making do not want to open in Animate (I am a complete beginner). How can I get them to open correctly? Alternatively, how do I turn the Indesign animations directly into gifs?

Thanks

export a fla from indesign (Create interactive web documents for Flash in InDesign )

open (file>open), not import, that fla in animate

export (file>export>export animated gif) with animate.

Thanks, but I tried it and retried it after reading your answer. It just opens as a static frame. The FLA is a test and it is 3 simple blocks moving onto the page.

I see no way how an exported CS6 fla file could be opened with Adobe Animate and still is working how you'd see it working with InDesign's EPUB Interactivity Preview Panel. Maybe it will work with Flash CS6, but unfortunately Flash CS6 is not available anymore.

If someone sees a way, please show it step-by-step. Thanks!

Just exported a rotating group as fla file. Download this from my Dropbox account:

(i'm an animate expert but have never used indesign, or id.)

you need to save to (or convert the fla to) a non-compressed fla (ie, an xfl file) to open in versions after cs6.  can you do that from id?

if not, anyone with flash cs6 can do that.

Hi kglad ,

export to xfl was removed in InDesign CS6.
A feature of InDesign CS5 and CS5.5, I think.

Flash CS6 is no more available with Creative Cloud.

Fla files from InDesign, also InDesign CC 2019, are compressed Flash CS6 fla files.

Without Flash CS6 one could not open the exported fla files from InDesign in Adobe Animate.

A catch-22, I think 😞

Workaround:

Get someone with InDesign CS5 or CS5.5 to export to xfl.

EDITED: Export the CC 2019 INDD file to IDML. Open the IDML file with InDesign CS5 or CS5.5 and hope for the best. Then export to xfl.

Or get someone with Flash CS6 perpetual version to save the fla file to an uncompressed one.

Regards,
Uwe

Hi emmag744393 ,

could you record the motion in the EPUB Interactivity Preview Panel?

When on Mac OS X this should be doable with Apple's QuickTime app.

Or could you export the INDD document to Publish Online and record the motion from a browser?

Regards,
Uwe
