MacOS Sierra (10.12.4)
InDesign CC 2017 (12.1.0.56)
If I duplicate a Table that has a Header & Footer, the Header & Footer will disappear!!!
What the heck????
I tried copy and paste.
I also tried opt and dragged to another location.
Same results.
I then opened up Story Editor.
It reveals the Header and Footer is now Overset text.
I then made the frame larger and the Header and Footer reappears.
Attached is a simple example to show.
Is this happening to anyone else???
If so, I will report as bug.

Hi,
This is a known issue with InDesign release 2017.1 but still I request you to report it as a bug at Feature Request/Bug Report Form
As a workaround you can try any of the following:
1. (this you already know) Simply change the size of the table frame slightly.
or
2. Insert your text tool into the table and type a single character; the header and footer will reappear
I hope these work for you.

Same results if I merge the Header cells and Footer cells.

Aman,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I discovered this yesterday. I spent two very frustrating hours on this before I realized it was overset text.
I wanted to use a table I created last year in a new document.
PLEASE fix!
Wish Adobe would create threads in all their forums with known Bugs.
Would save many frustrated/angry users time and money lost.
Thank you.

Thank GOODNESS I found your post!! This issue has been driving me CRAZY all day today and I didn't know how to get things working again. I agree that known bugs should be posted somewhere...or emailed to the community. Would save us users lots of troubleshooting time.

Hi Christine,
then I would go back to InDesign CC 2017.0.
What also bugs me often is this strange "special character" in the Story Editor when a table is shown.
I can also see it with the OP's screenshot:
As Aman said. Report it here:
Feature Request/Bug Report Form
I already did.
Regards,
Uwe

Yes Laubender, what the heck with all those tiny special characters now in Story Editor??? Can’t select.
Looks like maybe a missing character symbol.
Header- appears on right side. Body text- appears on both sides, Footer- appears on right side.
So Adobe, what are those special characters symbols in Story Editor???? That is new.
There is nothing special in that Table. Is this yet another Bug???
Christine, we users feel your pain.

The "special character" showing in Story Editor with table cells is not a new phenomenon.
I already observed it in October 2016 and did a bug report back then.
So again:

Good observation Laubender!
From time to time, I use Story Editor with text frames.
Good grief Adobe!!!
OK, I too will report another bug, now Story Editor with Tables.
Perhaps if we were all stockholders of Adobe and not users, with their Lease $$$ ONLY plan, Adobe would fix their known bugs BEFORE releasing yet another update.

Could you upload your document to a download service like Dropbox and post the link?
Currently I cannot see the problem with my German InDesign CC 2017.1. Just checked this with files where this issue is visible with CC 2017.0 on the same machine.
Differences could be:
OSX versions. Yours is 10.12.4, mine is 10.10.5.
Different localized versions.

Uwe

OK, here (hopefully) is the InD file and link.
First time I have used Dropbox.

Sorry. This link is not leading to the uploaded file but to a log-in with Dropbox itself.
( From my memory: Identify the file listed in your dropbox folder on your machine, use the context menu on the selected file and you'd be able to either do the URL with the Dropbox options offered or you could copy the URL of this file.)
Alternatively send me a PM so I can give you my mail address…
Thanks,
Uwe

Note:
In the meanwhile I recieved the InDesign CC 2017.1 document from kphotopage with the table, opened it with my German version of CC 2017.1 on German OSX 10.10.5:
I cannot see the special characters in my Story Editor window.
Wheras the provided screenshot by kphotopage is actually showing the special characters.
Difference between the two views:
OSX versions. kphotopage 's is English 10.12.4, mine is German 10.10.5.
Different localized InDesign versions 12.1.0.56: English vs German.
No MENA versions involved…

Uwe

Maybe that should better be discussed in this thread:
Strange icons appear in file - how to get rid of them?

Thank you Steve and Bob for your quick reply.
In this day and age with an email delivered to my Spam mailbox with a link to click on, well, I am a bit cautious!!!
OK, so Monica Singh is legitimate, part of Adobe InDesign team.
Notice I did not share the link sent.
I’ll wait for next public download update.
Glad Adobe is addressing this major bug!!!
Fix one thing, something else breaks.
Adobe blames Mac. Mac blames Adobe.
Thank you again,
