Indesign 18 crashing every time I relink a file on Ventura machine

Every time a document is unlinked in my indesign files and I go to relink or update the link, indesign immediately crashes. My only workaround has been to completely delete the file from indesign and drop it in again. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

@jmlevy makes a good point there. Try resaving the link.

If that is not working - then maybe

If a document is not behaving well then try

File>Export

Choose IDML

Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.

or

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

and if that's not working

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

I have exactly the same problem.

Different files. Same issue. The files are not different by name also by design and content and linked files and sources. Hence, it is not the files but the application. This just happend when I updated the to Ventura and to Adobe 2023 Suite (all apps).

I reinstalled all the apps. I reset the preferences with Shift+Option+Command+Control. Keep crashing!

Really annying when you need this for work ...

Hi @tomášg82169915,

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for trying the troubleshooting steps. Have you tried to relink the file on a different machine, other than Ventura to confirm if it is not operating system specific issue?

We will try our best to investigate and help you.

Thanks,

Harshika

The linked file could be corrupted. Did you try to open it and save it?
