InDesign 2025 SLOW

Explorer ,
Oct 16, 2024 Oct 16, 2024

Just started using ID 2025 this morning and I'm noticing a LOT of lag time with pretty much any activity. I'm running a Mac Studio with an M2 Ultra, so it's not my computer. I've tried some simple troubleshooting but it is simply not responding like ID 2024. Help!

Hi @Bigwig:

I'd start by rebuilding preferences:
https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-indesign-rebuilding-preferences-cache/

If that doesn't work, I would just go back to the version you were working on before the update. It's usually a good idea not to update to a .0 release. Let someone else go through this pain and report the issues and update again after it the .1 release is out.

Also, you may not know this, but you can have more than one version installed on your computer. I kee

A couple of things that have helped -

1. Turn off Preflight: Window/Output/Preflight. Unfortunately, they don't give us the option for it to be off by default so you'll have to remember to turn it off every document you open.

2. Turn off Font Previews: On a blank screen go to Preferences/Type/Type Options/  uncheck the box for "Enable in-menu Font Previews" then Restart InDesign to "make it so!"

So far, these have helped. I'm on Macbook M1 Pro with Sequoia 15.0

Hi! For me, disable/hide contextual bar might have solve the lack of response ! Maybe because InDesign is always updating this window as you change tool or click on something…

Magnetic leashes? It's better? I don't know the term in English, sorry. But
everything. These are leashes. But it's just an example. Here for example
very important to have more than 2 in leashes options, otherwise it doesn't
attach the leashes at all... Etc. When I do what you suggest, I loos all
these already done setup... So what's the point?

Yes, I confirm the problem. Indesign 2025 is extremely slow. With every click, every mouse movement, eas with text editing, the beach ball always comes! I work with the quick view so that it is halfway bearable. But this is not a solution in the long run. Rebuilt the preferences doesn't work for me! Should i now reinstall ID and waste my time for an Adobe Problem?!

PLEASE UPDATE SO THAT THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED, THANK YOU!!

I confirm it's completely unusable on a maxed out iMac i9. Back to the old version, feeling blessed.

I installed the latest version. But as I've said, grateful the old one is back for me, because I don't have time for this sh..... and have crazy deadlines. If you ask me, I hate these constant updates breaking things anytime they please. Try communicating this to the management!

I am for updates, yes, but let's do it properly. A roll-out with training, planned in the schedule, etc... All these updates may require hardware updates, what then, it's all a constant mess. Rosetta or native, this and that, games, games games...

And I'm for updates, but to work. I'm asking you which version do you currently have that works fine without lagging?

Ah, ok, it said ‘long term support’. Just checked, says “19.5”.

Certainly. Also these pop-up tutorials make me mad. It’s all nice and cute if you have time to burn, but rushing to finish a layout? No thanks!

I wish Adobe consulted with the ‘workforce’ before their releases. 😉

I've tried all the suggestions. This update stinks. Even to create a new document I get the spinning pinwheel....Adobe  needs to fix this asap....it's taking me 3-4x as long to complete my tasks.

UUUUUUUGH! Even the dropdown menu to select paper size to print takes 10 minutes between the lag and slow reponse from the program.

Same problem here since OS Sequoia 15.1.1 update yesterday, but this solution worked for me, thank you. I believe it was the Window/Output/Preflight which was causing the lag. Even so, I've switched off all of them and it's helped.

It is possible to set Preflight: Window/Output/Preflight to be off by default - if you do it when you don't have a document open, it will be the default for new documents.
