I am having issues with InDesign CC 2017 being extremely slow. If I click on a font the beachball just spins... I tried working in it for a few hours but it is killing me and went back to the previous version.
I use Suitcase Fusion and turned off Typekit. I am running Mac OS Sierra.
Is anyone else having this issue? I can't find any complaints online.
Thank you
Hello all,
This has worked for me - cheers

Hello all,
I had the same issue with indesign running so slow for over a week. Unable to work!!!!!
I tried all the things supposed here an in other forums - nothing worked. I recognized for me, that the more sites (or text) the documents have the slower gets indesign. One page documents with less text: slow. More text with up to 100 sites - no chance to work - only "Beachball-working".
So the problem seemed to come from text? I suspected the new Suitcase Fusion 7 - I disabled the suitcase fusion plugin for auto-activation in indesign: No problems any more. Indesign works like I know and (often) love it!
Maybe I can help someone with this tipp. For me it solved the problem!
Regards,
Jason

We use Suitcase Fusion 7 as well, will have to try to turn off auto activate and see if that helps. Anyone else using SF7?

I use Suitcase Fusion 7 as well! I started this discussion. I will check too, then at least we finally know who to complain to!

I was having the exactly the same problems and have deactivated Suitcase Fusion 7 ID plugin, and so far it has fixed the beach balling. Looks like Extensis need to look into this issue.

Tried turning off the preference for Suitcase Fusion and it did not help. Sadly... still beachball unless I turn off the type contextual preferences.

Here's another question. Is anyone here working on a server?
I'm working on a brand new iMac at work (it was top spec in April), it has 64mb ram and is running on Mac OS Sierra.
i am the only one using a Mac in my office (it's an architects) and I have to work from their Windows server.
Since i upgraded to 2017, InDesign is painfully slow and like you guys, I get the beachball every time I change the slightest thing. Sometimes I have to wait at least 5 mins before I think about force quitting because sometimes, when I make a change and the screen freezes, 5 minutes later the change eventually happens, then I can save.
Its totally unworkable. I'm at home now so I can't try the uninstalling and reinstalling But I hope that works.

We are working on a (file-)server as well - on a Mac Server.
But this is not the origin of this problem. Try to edit a file locally saved on your PC > still the Beachball Problem.
Maybe it's Extensis Suitcase 7. I was not able to fix this problem by deactivating the plugin on Windows machines.

I am also having the same problem.
Could Adobe react before we all have a nervous breakdown.

My copy is working now. I did downgrade to 2015 (which didn't help). But then saw the post that uninstalling and installing did work. I did uninstall and reinstall 2017 and the program has been working for me.

InDesign 2017 was so slow to the point of being impossible to work with today. I used it yesterday and it was fine. I googled the issue and came upon this thread. Downgraded to 2015 and no further issues but I want to confirm what people say that the 2017 version became impossible to use.

We uninstalled InDesign 2017 and re-installed it (without Suitcase Plugin).
It works so far.
If it still works, I will re-install it on all devices.

Signed up for the forum over at Extensis, and poking around found this that may help:
These issues are usually caused by an older or incorrect plug-in version being installed in your Adobe plug-ins folders. Please try the following steps to see if it can be resolved:
Once they have been successfully removed, open the Suitcase Fusion application and select the Suitcase Fusion drop-down menu in the upper left corner next to the Apple menu. Then select Manage Plug-ins. Select the Adobe versions of the plug-ins you would like installed and click Done. Now launch your Adobe application(s) and see if everything is working as intended.
Maybe we could try this, and maybe with a reinstall this is what is getting fixed?

It looks like an issue with font management plugins. I use FontExplorer X Pro and uninstalling the plugin cured the problem. It would be interesting to see if everybody having the problems is using a plugin for type or anything else.

I have been having inconsistent problems with ID 2017, slowness and other issues. And I *think* it's related to my use of FontAgent Pro and its auto-activation plugins. It would seem from reading this forum that *any* of these font management plugins present some problems for ID 2017 (although I had plenty of similar problems with 2015 release).

Removed the Suitcase Fusion extension in all versions and that did not help.

Hi Vicky,
· Earlier Version status(Please mention Yes/No)Same issue was being observed in earlier version of InDesign.
Not with CC 2015 before update to 2017. Now I tried installing 2015 again but it's slow like 2017.
· Which area OR feature where slowness is being observed(e.g typing, export, movement etc.)

Indesign is very slow after every workstep. Not only if i put a picture into the document or type a text or change the size of pictures or textboxes. There's always a spinning wheel for at least 30 seconds after doing something. It's also when I'm going into preferences and open a lookup.

I used PaletteApp first but now it's deinstalled and nothing changes

I just shut down my WLAN connection and now there is no more 30 second-delay after each step in Indesign. Re-Installing CC 2017 or using CC 2015 didn't make a difference. When I'm connecting WLAN again the spinning wheel is back after the next operation.
Im currently using a slower connection but I use only local files for my document.

Hi Sven
I'm sorry you're facing difficulties in working with InDesign.
Is your display performance setting set to "High Quality Display"? If yes, please try to change your display quality settings to "Typical display".
It can be changed at View > Display Performance > Typical display
Please let us know if this works for you.
Thanks

Hi Kaustubh
last week I had exactly the same problems as jojox6x but on a MacBook Pro. I deinstalled ID 2017 but 2015 was also slow with spinning wheels after each workstep or menu operation. I reinstalled 2017 and first it worked fine but after saving the document in 2017 file format it was slow again. After switching off W-LAN it worked fast. At home with a faster connection I had no problems also with running W-LAN. I tried all proposals from this forum including turning down display quality so I don't know the reason why it's fast again.
I'll try to find out more this weekend.
Thank you!
Sven

we pay a lot of money for the cloud, we waste a lot of time with the problems in the software. My patience is at the end.
How long must we wait for an functioning software??????

InDesign has been unusably slow since the 2016 version instituted libraries, and other creative cloud services. We know WHY the program is slow. What we would like is a fix.
Thanks!

Yea, they should just have a preference added which turns off all the cloud paraphernalia that a lot of people don't need or want. InDesign should just be as fast as hell on pretty much any 5 year old machine these days. Quark 3 on an old PowerMac was faster than the 2017 version of InDesign!
