InDesign Constantly Crashing

New Here ,
Oct 17, 2024 Oct 17, 2024

I am having issues with InDesign 2025 constantly crashing. I even installed older versions in an effort to solve the problem. When I open the application, it freezes, and I have to force quit to close it. It is completely unusable. I have a new desktop computer running Windows 11, enough RAM and a high-speed internet connection. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Furthermore, I cannot download or open my creative cloud files. It simply says: "Download failed". Any ideas?

Hi @Daté,

I truly appreciate the time you and others have taken to report these issues. Your feedback is invaluable, and I want to assure you that we’re actively working on this.

The product team is actively investigating these crashes, and I’ll update you as soon as I have more details.

If you haven’t already, try updating to InDesign 20.2 and check if the issue persists. There’s a known issue with the Typeface app causing crashes. Disabling it should help.

Also, please submit a crash r

Im getting similar problems on my M1 mini running ventura.

Crashes if I alt drag an object on the page, or alt drag a page in the pages panel to duplicate. Its strangely intermittent though, its like sometihing triggers the instability and then it goes. If I relaunch, it might do it again, and then again, and then it will be fine for a while then go again.

Its been horribly laggy too, thought my bluetooth mouse was playing up but actually I think its indesign there too. Its really annoying as these are things I do automatically all the time, its very difficulkt to work around as theyre my workflow, i dont think about them. Please fix this, its mindbending.

Crashes while alt-dragging were recently reported by other users too:

Did you update your InDesign and Ventura to their latest versions?

I have the same issue, ID 2025 crashing everytime I try to save my file or open a file. I force quit and then ID won't open back up. It has been crashing non-stop for over a week. Suddenly it works for a day so I can work, then back to crashing the next day. I have removed and re-installed both ID and CC .
I try to open other files, sometimes they work, but mostly ID crashes on start, so I can't even open a file.
Not sure if this happened perhaps after the latest version of  macOS Sequoia? But this is becoming a real problem for me to be able to do my job and keep deadlines.

This new version is a mess. I never know when its going to crash. I am saving every 30 seconds to no avail. No explanation. Tried reinstalling. Looked for old extensions still in folders on drive.  All my images are hiRes Tiffs and I am working in CMYK. It has me totaly at wits end because I have to comb through the document everytime to make sure previous edits are still there. From the conversation here I would tell Adobe to just fix it. I've been with Adobe since 1991 and have never had an app in the platform perform this unpredictably. I tried to explain this to my client as my deadline slipped. Her comment: "Just fix it!"

Just in case: what are your exact versions of InDesign and the operating system?

Hi @GretaUz,

Were you able to submit a crash report through the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog? If not, please submit one and DM me the email address you used, so I can check the logs and get it investigated. Ref: Submit Crash Reports.

Also, could you try updating to InDesign 20.2 and see if the issue persists? Let me know when exactly the crash happens, at launch, while using a specific tool, or during a particular action? For general crash troubleshooting, you can also check this guide: InDesign Crash Solutions. Looking forward to your update!

Hi @Abhishek Rao ,

Many of us complained about the instability of Indesign CC2025 and other critical bugs also appeared in version CC2024 and probably not resolved in version CC2025. As Adobe employees, many of you ask us on the forums to spend time testing solutions, generating logs, videos, printscreens and so on, but you often don't get back to us to let us know how the problem is being handled and that's very frustrating.
Can you make an effort to keep us informed about what you're trying to do to resolve the problem? Please don't fall into the trap of sending us only courtesy messages to keep us waiting. The issues are critical for us, because the productivity of our work is in danger.

Regards

Hi @Abhishek Rao

i have opened another tickets about indesign crash issues due to cc libraries sync error , maybe this topics are linked. It could be interesting to invastigate on both.

Here is the link to the ticket : https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-crashing-when-editing-creatve-cloud-lib...

this ticket contains a video and a log report.

I'd like to know if the problems with CC library synchronisation make Indesign and other CC applications unstable.

I hope this will help.

I am consistently having this issue, absolutely frustrating that it takes me over an hour to update a JPG image on one file because InDesign crashes EVERY time I place it, or in another file when I try to save it. I've updated my computer, removed IND, updated the application, only had IND open, closed everything etc... but this is not conducive to working, especially when I am making a simple one-pager. Adobe needs to fix this bug ASAP - it took me 3 hours to save one data sheet because it kept crashing.

I'm still having these issues. I have tried everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Even the adobe tech I called tried. Said something about it was because I saved files to the cloud, but yet when I save them to the desktop I still have the same issues. Still crashing. Cannot open files. Files have been corrupted beyond repair. Costing me serious $ and hours andd hours of my time. What the actual!? Got offered a free month on my subscription as a 'sorry' after losing thousands of dollars worth of work. And it's still happening! I can't even use the app and when I have managed to get it open all confidence is lost because the file could crash and corrupt at any second.

We need full system details including full versions of operating system and InDesign builds. Current version of InDesign is 20.4.1, so if you're not there, you need to be. How much RAM do you have? What processor?
