I have a Macbook Pro 2023 M3 Pro with 18gb RAM and 512gb SSD. Whenever I load my document in Indesign the colourwheel keeps cropping up. I've restarted my laptop, uninstalled the app and recdownloaded, reset preferences and even tried older versions, no luck. Please does anyone know how to solve this 😕

First things first. Update the O/S to 15.1.1.

If you have Magnet installed, uninstall it.

Hello @Cemahl347752603xsb,

To find Magnet, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open the Applications folder: Go to Finder, click on Applications in the left sidebar.
  2. In the search bar at the top right of Finder, type "Magnet". If it's installed, it should show up in the list.
  3. If you see Magnet in your Applications folder, simply drag it to the Trash to uninstall it. Alternatively, you can right-click on the app and select "Move to Trash."

Once you've uninstalled Magnet, restart your Mac and check if the issue with InDesign persists. Let me know how it goes!

Abhishek Rao

Hi @Cemahl347752603xsb,

Thanks for letting me know! Could you please share a screen recording demonstrating the issue so we can understand it better?

Also, does this happen with a specific document, or do you experience the same spinning color wheel when opening a new blank document in InDesign? This will help us narrow down the cause.

Looking forward to your response!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

At the moment it's with a specific document that is quite important. I've compressed all the files that i have attached to the document to ensure it's not too big, but the issue is still apparent. In this screen recording its only showing the cursor, but this is a spinnign colour wheel on my screen.

Hi @Cemahl347752603xsb,

Thanks for sharing the details and the recording! I noticed that in the recording, no file appears to be opened, and it only shows the default InDesign screen. To better understand and troubleshoot the issue, could you please confirm if the spinning color wheel occurs as soon as you try opening the specific document?

If possible, could you share the affected file with us for testing?

Looking forward to your response!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

That's the thing, that was me waiting for the document to appear, whilst the spiining colour wheel was on! I had pressed on the document.

Hi @Cemahl347752603xsb,

Thanks for clarifying! It seems like the spinning color wheel appears right after you try opening the document. To narrow this down, could you please confirm:

  1. Does the issue occur with this specific file only, or does it happen with other documents as well?
  2. Is the file stored locally or on a network drive/cloud storage?
  3. Have you tried resetting InDesign preferences or checking with a different version of InDesign?

If you're comfortable, sharing the file with us for testing would greatly help in identifying the root cause. Let us know!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

It happens with other files if they start to contain more data. It's stored on my laptop desktop alongside all the other files on the document. I've reset preferences and tried an older version but still no luck. I've uploaded the file 🙂

Hi @Cemahl347752603xsb,

Thank you for sharing the file and the details! I’ve tested the file on my end, and it opened and worked fine without any issues.

To help further narrow this down, could you try opening InDesign in Safe Mode and see if the spinning color wheel issue still occurs? Here’s how you can test that: Safe Mode on macOS.

Please let me know the results. This will help us determine the next steps.

Best,
Abhishek Rao
