How do I mark selected text as separate paragraph without adding any spacing to the paragraph?
I want to add the spacings and styling only after I marked the selection as separate paragraph.
Currently the whole copy text is one paragraph because I removed all paragraph returns with an online paragraph return remover.

ID has 8 different Break Characters all with different functions and invisibles. You can also assign different Key Commands, so your Enter key might do something different than mine.
A Forced Line Break doesn’t create a new paragraph, it just breaks a line within a paragraph. Here are the Hidden Characters for a Column Break, Paragraph Return (a new styled paragraph), Forced Line Break, and Discretionary Line Break:

Yes, I noticed you sent a reply but I am not going to read it.
I am not going to read messages from a person who is an outright patronizing bully, which is well documented in many of your replies to me on this forum.
I do not read your replies anymore. This was the last message you got from me. So that everyone knows it.

Adding space does NOT create a break. The break must already exist for space to be added.

When i hit enter, it creates a line break and it inserts a paragraph break character.
These 2 are undeniable.
That the break creates the space or the space creates the break, I didn't dive into that, I just said that when I hit enter the same thing happens when I define a Space After value.

When you hit Enter you create a paragraph break. IF, and only if, the paragraph is formatted to include space the space will be added, but the mere act of hitting enter does not create paragraph spacing.
If you add spacing to an exisiting paragraph style, all paragraphs assigned that style will now have sapcing, but that does not create any new breaks.
You cannot create paragraph spacing in the middle of a paragraph without first breaking the paragraph in two.

That I totally noticed and understand.
But when I hit Enter, my system will add the line break too, not just the paragraph break character, even though I did not devine so far as I know or so far as I observed any spacing to paragraph styles. I will double check.
Because I only add top and bottom spacing to my subheads, because that seems more logical to me.
That will naturally add the spacing for the paragraphs too, when necessary.

Good to know this is very customizable.
At a certain point my body copy was full with hidden flipped P characters, but there were no line breaks in the text. So how do I insert such a paragraph break (blue flipped P) hidden character without adding line break, if I want to?

I mentioned this earlier—it’s because you are setting Justify all lines —should be Justify with last line aligned left.
And you are confusing the terms Forced Line Break and Paragraph Return—as everyone else has mentioned you need to insert a Paragraph Return in order to start a new paragraph.
No First Line Indents and Justification set to Justify all lines:
Justify with last line aligned left and a First Line Indent

I cannot have the last line aligned to left, because in such narrow columns, if an indented paragraph is next, it looks bad.

Is it possible to give the left align a max "right indent" value (and would it make sense)?
Because if the end of the left aligned row is getting close to the indent in the next row, that doesn't look good.

Ah, I could set a right indent and fake the left align in a controlled way, so it will always be the same distance.
Then together with the left indents I would get a controlled rag.
I think that's what I am going to do, to avoid too big rags.
Noone can tell if the last line is left aligned or right indented, right?

No there isn’t a way to conditionally justify the last line. You would have to override the Paragraph Style and change the justification setting. The overrides could be done via scripting.

I instead have choosen now to set a right indent to the last line, since they cannot observe if it is left aligned or right indented. Then I get equal rags.

The "flipped P" is called a Pilcrow and marks a paragraph break. You enter one by hitting the Enter key on the alphabetical section of the keyboard.
There is always a line break (in programming code, Carriage Return and New line) at a paragraph break, but because you have no first line indents in your paragraph style you don't have an easy way to recognize it. It seems you want to define a "paragraph break" as having empty space (blank line). That's not how the program works, but you can add space as part of the style or as a local format override default to make it look like that.
If space is being added when you press Enter, you MUST have either added it to your style or set it without an active text cursor in the same way you can set a default font or other text attribute.
And the various breaks are not "customizable." Each has a specific purpose and you choose which break to use depending on what you need.

Yes, sorry for the wrong use of the terminology.
I know what the line break is. yes, what I meant is 2 line breaks (or empty line).
Is there a term for that in InDesign?

Yes I get it know. I said line break for an empty line, sorry.

Yes. Poor technique.
Blank lines, or empty paragraphs will cause trouble in editing when text reflows. Unlike paragraph space before or after, which is ignored at the top of a column, empty paragraphs will leave an unwanted blank line.

Now I verified by clicking in a paragraph and adding a space after value, that no additional paragraph break was added. I think I understand it now.
